Leo Psaros and Alexandra Psaros Goldburg host sold-out penthouse reception in Manhattan

On April 11, The Hellenic Initiative (THI) held its first ever THI New York New Leaders Gala at the spectacular Manhatta, perched 60 stories above the city of Manhattan. Guests enjoyed a glamorous cocktail event featuring breathtaking skyline views, open bar, delicious food, gorgeous flowers donated by Starbright Floral Design, music, and dancing.

Made possible by the generosity of the evening’s hosts, Alexandra Psaros Goldburg and Leo Psaros, the sold-out 250-person fundraising event netted $41,489. THI Board Member Michael Psaros and wife Robin were in attendance to show their support as well. There was lots of ‘Networking with a Purpose’ as young professionals from NYC and beyond gathered to meet one another in support of THI’s philanthropic and economic development efforts in Greece.

Founded in 2012, THI is a global non-profit organization that brings together Diaspora Greeks and Philhellenes to invest in Greece through programs focused on economic development and crisis relief. Since its founding, THI has invested more than $22 million in Greece and has grown to be the largest Greek Diaspora organization in the world.

THI’s New Leaders are an international group of professionals 21-45 years of age who actively believe in investing in the future of Greece through direct philanthropy and economic revitalization. New Leaders are Greeks and Philhellenes of the Diaspora who are passionate about working together (‘Oli Mazi!’) to fundraise and donate their time, resources, skills, and expertise in helping to build a better future for Hellas.

Co-host Alexandra Psaros said, “We enjoyed hosting one of the most attended and successful THI events to date! All of the attendees had a smile on their face throughout the night!”. Co-host Leo Psaros added: “I thank everyone who participated, especially those who made it possible!”

THI’s New Leaders host much-anticipated cocktail receptions all over the world and support and participate in volunteer events in Athens as well, such as Plant a Tree Service Projects held annually in July. These events are always shared via the New Leaders newsletter as well as on The Hellenic Initiative’s Upcoming Events page. The success of these events worldwide is a testament to the belief in THI’s work, but also the need for like-minded young professionals to meet one another and feel a direct connection with Greece.

Artemis Kohas, THI’s Director of Community Development, stated, “THI’s New Leaders is the most vibrant and successful program we have as a community. The growth we have seen globally over the last seven years is one that I can say I have not seen in a Greek Diaspora young professional society to date. The New Leaders enthusiasm, willingness to donate their time, their skills, their money, is an inspiration to me and keeps us reaching new milestones each year. Our Members often meet at our events and become long lasting friends. We truly live our motto that we can do anything ‘Oli Mazi’ (all together).”

Andrew N. Liveris, THI’s Board Chairman, stated, “The New Leaders are the foundation on which THI’s long term vision lies. They are the sources source of innovative ideas, the energy for new efforts, and the recruiting ground for THI Board members to come.”

George P. Stamas, THI’s Board President, stated, “I can’t say enough about the dynamic and talented young people who have joined the New Leaders. Not only are we delighted that they are expressing their Hellenic heritage by participating in the wonderful events and donating to and supporting their cause, but in their personal and professional endeavors related to Greece, they are our living bridge to the Homeland.”
