THI Expands Support For Free At-home Palliative Care For Athens’ Elderly

THI Funding Helps NOSILIA Grow Its Program for Seniors in Need

The Hellenic Initiative announces continued support for NOSILIA, a certified nonprofit organization providing free in-home palliative care in the center of Athens regardless of the type of illness a patient faces. THI’s latest grant extends a partnership between the two organizations that dates back to 2021. This year THI funds NOSILIA’s “Giras Timan” program to deliver free, at-home nursing and palliative care to elderly Athenians who have nowhere else to turn.

Founded in 2001, NOSILIA has spent more than two decades meeting a need that too often goes unaddressed in Greece: comprehensive care for people facing serious illness. Each year the organization supports patients and their family members, combining medical, nursing, psychosocial, physical therapy, and spiritual support into a single, coordinated response delivered whenever possible, in the home rather than a hospital ward. This year’s grant is also helping NOSILIA scale three newer services to meet rising demand: personal hygiene support for bedridden patients, a companionship service called “Syndesis” to ease the isolation so many elderly patients face, and a digital knowledge hub offering caregivers practical guidance from home. The program is expected to serve around 100 elderly patients over the course of a year.

Ms. Olga Papadoiliopoulou, CEO of NOSILIA, said, “Every patient we care for has a family behind them trying to hold everything together. This continued partnership with The Hellenic Initiative means we can reach more people in their own homes, provide more care when it is needed most, and offer greater support to the family members and caregivers who carry so much of the responsibility every day.”

George P. Stamas, THI Co-Founder and Board President, said: “NOSILIA shows up for people other systems often overlook. The isolated, the seriously ill, the families running out of options. We are glad to renew this partnership and help that care keep reaching the people who need it most. ”

Andrew N. Liveris, THI Co-Founder and Board Chairman, said: “NOSILIA’s work is a powerful reminder of why this kind of support matters. Helping more elderly Greeks get through serious illness without facing it alone. We are grateful to NOSILIA’s team for the care they bring to every family they serve.”
