The Hellenic Initiative announces a new grant for the support of the Therapeutic Summer Camp for Children in Greece – Elpida Youth Summer Camp 2018

The Hellenic Initiative – THI for the second year in a row is supporting the Therapeutic Camp for children with a grant, organized by “Elpida Youth”, of the ELPIDA Association of Friends of Children with Cancer. Funds for this grant were raised during THI’s 3rd Annual London Event that took place in May 2018, recognizing the work of the “Elpida Youth” Committee.

Elpida Youth Summer Camp 2017 was the 1st Therapeutic Camp in Greece, where 70 children with neoplastic diseases from all over the country, 25 cured children-volunteers and 25 executives, from 28 August until 6 September 2017 experienced the unique experience of the therapeutic entertainment. For 10 days, the children hosted had the opportunity to discover themselves and their abilities, to develop their sociability and cultivate their optimism and self-confidence, through a series of athletic, artistic, and mental activities. Elpida Youth Summer Camp 2018 took place in Sofiko Korinthias.

The “Elpida Youth” Committee was established three years ago by young members of the ELPIDA Association of Friends of Children with Cancer, with aim to raise public awareness on the problems faced by children with cancer and their families, to take new actions and to create and implement new programs focused on the psychological and social support of sick children.

Through its new grant, The Hellenic Initiative reaffirms its commitment on offering support to socially vulnerable groups, through supporting activations, initiatives, and organizations, with a significant impact to those affected by the continuing socio-financial crisis.

Michael Printzos, THI’s Program Director, stated: “Through our new grant to Elpida Youth Summer Camp, we stand by the side of children with neoplastic diseases, while at the same time we support the exceptional work of the ELPIDA Association, which is an organization that constantly stands out for its actions and contribution.”

Princess Tatiana, of the “Elpida Youth” Committee and THI International Ambassador, added: “We are extremely excited that we launched the Elpida Youth Holistic Summer Camp for children with cancer – the first of its kind in Greece – this summer.  We are confident that by focusing on the non-medical aspects of cancer treatment we can help some of life’s greatest fighters regain some of their lost childhoods whilst building self-esteem and strength.
All of us at Elpida Youth are extremely grateful to the award we received from The Hellenic Initiative as these funds helped us launch on time and provide a free-of-charge summer camp to over 70 children with cancer. From the bottom of our hearts- Thank you!
