The THI Summer Basketball Academy,in partnership with Eurohoops, presents a special two-week program centered around basketball, aimed at fostering personal growth and a sense of community. The curriculum involves basketball training sessions and inspirational meet ups with mentors. The schedule presents an enriching daily itinerary, commencing at 09:00 and concluding at 17:00, Monday through Friday, offering a full 10 days of immersive experiences for each young athlete.
By the end of the two-week period, participants will gain valuable experiences that focus on self esteem, teamwork, empathy and collaboration toward shared objectives. Additionally, the program will emphasize the development of essential soft skills and, most importantly, activities related to emotional intelligence, supporting their development both on and off the courts.
The program is offered at no cost, targeting children from families living on low income, aged 14-18 years old living in Athens. Selected participants will be divided into two groups over the two 10-day sessions starting July 1st.
All participants will be offered free of cost cardio checks, training attire and will receive on a daily basis a nutritious snack and lunch meal. The Program will take place at the Leonteios School of Athens facilities, 17 Neigy Str. Ano Patisia, 111 43 Athens, Greece. Participants are expected to arrange their own transportation to and from the Leonteios School.
Participants will engage in basketball training sessions designed for every level: beginner, intermediate, advanced. Participants don’t need to have any prior knowledge or experience in playing basketball. Through the specialized training program, newcomers will learn how to play basketball, while more experienced players will enhance their game, improve skills, technique, and overall performance on the court under the guidance of experienced coaches. Furthermore, participants will be engaged in daily fun games and challenges.
Participants will take part in fitness sessions aimed at improving endurance, strength, agility, and overall physical well-being, ensuring peak performance in basketball and daily life.
Through interactive theoretical basketball school sessions, participants will delve into the fundamentals of the game, learn strategic plays, and foster teamwork in a dynamic learning environment.
The program will culminate in 3×3 basketball tournaments, where participants will showcase their skills and sportsmanship, followed by a celebratory ceremony to honor their achievements and camaraderie throughout the program.
Through specially designed educational workshops for Individuality and Communication, Team Dynamics and Leadership, participants will be motivated and supported to explore what makes them unique and how they can communicate it to others. They will discover the ways teams are built and the characteristics that make them successful. They will learn to compromise opinions, making tough decisions, putting oneself in others’ shoes, and foreseeing what the future holds for them.
Through engaging activities such as theatrical play and dance, participants will unleash their creativity, express themselves artistically, and develop confidence in their unique talents.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet and get inspired by THI guest mentors and get motivated to pursue their passions, overcome obstacles, and strive for excellence both on and off the court.
Exploring the rich history and spirit of the Olympic Games, participants will embark on an educational journey at the Olympic Museum, gaining insights into the values of sportsmanship and global unity.
