Comicdom Press is a non for profit organization dedicated to release the educational and entertaining power of comics and graphic narratives. Through its flagship project of Athens Comics Library, the organization designs and facilitates workshops for a variety of audiences using comics as a tool for education, healing and community empowerment for over 15 years. The particular workshops designed for the THI Summer Youth Academy are connecting sports with storytelling, allowing the participants to creatively express themselves and produce their own comics around basketball and sports values.
Evina Maltsi, the top woman Greek basketball player of all time, was the official guest of the second period, offering a keynote speech on the importance of women’s empowerment in sports. Greece’s icon of women’s basketball highlighted the role of sport in developing self-confidence and the need to support young girls to pursue their sporting ambitions. Knowing some of her achievements in Greece and Europe, but mostly with her ethos and passion, she inspired the THI Summer Youth Academy athletes to play an active role in empowering women in sports. The presence of Evina Maltsi at the THI Summer Youth Academy, who also took part in the festive opening of the program, was undoubtedly one of the most important moments of the camp, encouraging girls to participate in sports with more determination.
