The Hellenic Initiative Welcomes former Executive Director Peter Poulos to the Board of Directors

Peter J. Poulos

Peter Poulos, who served The Hellenic Initiative (THI) for many years in numerous volunteer and leadership capacities, including as Executive Director from September 2018 to March 2022 and again on an interim basis in 2023 and 2024, has been appointed to the THI Board.

Poulos, said “The THI board is comprised of 43 members from around the globe, in all sectors and all levels of success, and they all care deeply about the homeland and the future of Hellenism. I have great admiration for the board and am deeply honored and pleased to have been invited to join them.”

Andrew N. Liveris, THI’s Board Chairman, stated, “As Executive Director from 2018 to 2022 Peter led THI in a manner that left a strong legacy and foundation to build on. I was very pleased he stayed involved with THI after a well-earned sabbatical and I am delighted he is joining our Board.”

George P. Stamas, THI’s Board President, stated, “In my role as Board President working so closely with Peter, I cannot overstate Peter’s immeasurable contribution, which will now continue as we welcome him to our Board, in helping to build THI into a powerful and beloved brand in the Hellenic Diaspora and Greece through the vision he shared with our leadership and by helping build an effective and highly motivated team. He will continue to serve as co-chair of THI’s International Ambassador’s Program. Axios my dear friend.”
A third generation Greek-American, Peter Poulos said of his upbringing, “we were very close to our relatives and we were tied to the idea of ‘giving back’ to the church and community. My great-grandparents left Greece at the turn of the last century and all of them hailed from Mani in Laconia.  We are a tough stock and fiercely proud of our heritage.”

He is a graduate of the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University where he received his degree in International Relations with a concentration in Modern Greek History. Since 2007 he has been living and working in Athens, Greece.
