Unique summer camp empowers
youth through sports.
The Hellenic Initiative is proud to announce its first-ever Summer Youth Academy, setting the stage for a transformative experience that leverages the power of sports for youth empowerment and leadership. Ted Leonsis, owner of several sports franchises, including the Washington Wizards, entrepreneur, and THI Board member, is the honorary Chair.
Set to launch in July 2024 in Athens, the Summer Youth Academy is a collaborative effort with Eurohoops, a prominent Athens-based basketball organization that empowers underprivileged youth aged 14-18 through sports. Held at the Leonteios School of Athens, in the suburb of Patisia, the camp will host a minimum of 100 children throughout July.
Ted Leonsis is the presenting sponsor, THI and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation are gold sponsors, and the John S. Latsis Foundation and Sprite are Silver sponsors. The Host Committee members include Ted Leonsis, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, George Stamas, Andrew Liveris, Nikos Koumettis, Nikos Stathopoulos, Dean Dakolias and Achilles Constantakopoulos.
Ted Leonsis said, “THI’s Summer Youth Academy is about more than basketball skills; It’s about mentoring these children and guiding them through life’s challenges and triumphs.”
Founded in 2012, THI is a global non-profit organization that brings together Diaspora Greeks and Philhellenes to invest in Greece through programs focused on economic development and crisis relief. Since its founding, THI has invested more than $22 million in Greece and has grown to be the largest Greek Diaspora organization in the world.
George P. Stamas, THI’s Board President, stated, “At THI, we believe in the power of education and sports to transform lives. Together with Eurohoops, we have partnered to create an unforgettable summer experience for the youth who deserve every opportunity to succeed.”
